What to Wear to the Renaissance Festival
Some of you may know that my husband and I met cosplaying at Comic-Con more than a decade ago. What you may not know is that, unsurprisingly, we’re both still geeky nerds! That said, it may not surprise you that we enjoy dressing up and going to Renaissance festivals, Comic-Cons, and more. I don’t have as much time as I’d like to handmake costumes anymore, but I do know what to wear to the Renaissance Festival. Here’s this year’s costume!

Outfit Details
Dress, Corset, Susan Shaw Necklace & Charm Bracelet (similar), Julie Vos Bracelets 1, 2, 3, & 4, Julie Vos Earrings
I went for a Rococo Pirate Queen-type look because I really wanted to wear this pretty corset. Ignore the fact that Rococo and Renaissance were very different eras. People were cosplaying Star Trek characters, mushrooms, and all other manner of characters, so I wasn’t the least bit out of place. Please also ignore the fact that the fabric I’m wearing didn’t exist back then (i.e., my corset is too shiny to be historically accurate).
I served vibes, not historical accuracy, okay? Haha.
Regarding sizing, I wore my usual size except the corset, which I sized down in. Even the boots, though not the highest quality, were really comfortable. If I’d had more time to prepare and plan my outfit, I would’ve bought higher-quality boots like these from Frye. They wouldn’t have arrived in time, so I had to go with something from Amazon. Still, they fit really well and hit exactly where I wanted them to!
I also would’ve ordered this linen dress instead, especially because it was 90º outside, but the one that arrived in time had great sleeves and was actually really comfortable.
My jewelry for this outfit was the highlight of the entire thing. I was stopped every ten feet by someone wanting to know where I got my necklace, earrings, and bracelets. I even had a few people ask to take pictures with me, which is always a little awkward, but it’s pretty standard for these types of things. It was so great to see so many serious cosplayers this year. Their costumes were some of the best I’ve ever seen. Most made their own clothes, which is so cool!
