Meiji Shrine is Japan’s most visited and celebrated shrine. Dedicated to Emperor Meiji who united Japan and opened it to the world, Meiji Shrine will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2020. Famous for its massive torii gates, large display of sake barrels, and as Japan’s most popular place to celebrate the first shrine visit of the New Year, called Hatsumode, and is a beautiful place to spend a few hours learning about Japanese culture and history.
