I have written about Grand Hotel, and Mackinac Island on which it has stood for 133 years, more than perhaps anywhere else in the world, because my husband and I spend so much time there each year. What keeps us coming back year after year to “America’s Summer Place” as its known, is its flair for the extravagant, attention to detail, and innovation. Read on to see why we keep coming back, season after season.
When on Mackinac Island recently, we enjoyed the most gorgeous sunset sail around the Straits of Mackinac, and saw incredibly vibrant colors like oranges, yellows, pinks, and briefly purples. It had been raining almost all day, so we were a bit worried that the sunset wouldn’t be very visible, but our good luck held out and we were shown the most magnificent sunset I’ve seen all year, which allowed me to take some of my favorite sunset photographs to date! I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed making them and getting splashed by the choppy waves!
