Sushi has always been one of my favorite foods, because it’s so versatile and each roll is different from the last. I’ll be the first to admit that I might be addicted to sushi, and whenever someone asks me what I want to eat, I say “sushi!”. As such, I’ve tried dozens and dozens of different sushi places around the world, and I can honestly say that Sushi Grand on Mackinac Island has some of the freshest fish I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying, plus the sushi rolls we ordered plated on top of slabs of Himalayan Pink salt, which gave the sushi rolls an additional layer of flavor, and added depth to the existing flavors inherent in each of the rolls. If you’re on the island, I highly recommend stopping by Sushi Grand, which is owned and operated by the luxurious Grand Hotel just up the hill from the restaurant, and if you’re not on the island, I’d recommend taking the ferry over for this sushi, because it’s the best sushi I’ve ever had in all of northern Michigan!
The vibe of the restaurant is very festive and is decked out with rattan and bamboo decor, as well as strong pops of vibrant, eye-catching colors like gold and red, which simultaneously grab your attention and meld into a fun, relaxed, and cheerful atmosphere. The staff are incredible friendly, and were more than happy to help us find things that suited our diets and preferences on the menu, and the restaurant also offers a variety of imported Asian beers and sakes to go with each meal. If you don’t have time to sit down and enjoy your meal, Sushi Grand also offers a sushi and drink case with pre-made meals and drinks, so you can pick out your sushi and a drink, grab it, and go!
Overall, I absolutely adore Sushi Grand! Our meals were refreshing, fresh, delicious, and enjoyed in a great location with great company. I’ve yet to find a better place in northern Michigan or the upper peninsula with better sushi, so I highly recommend making the trip to the island for a delicious bite!
