Summertime in Michigan is fleeting, so I always make the absolute most of it. I can’t wait to break out my warm weather clothing, assortment of basket bags, wide brim hats, and botanical printed clothing, and so the moment the sun begins to shine in earnest, I’m outside enjoying it while I can. I also love summertime, because clothing companies create things that are much more my style than fall and winter clothing, like ruffled white dresses, beautiful oiled, tobacco brown leathers, shades of green clothing, and being eco-friendly comes back to the forefront of everyone’s minds as we find ourselves closer to nature than any other time of year.
I’ve rounded up my favorite summer essentials, which you can shop above, or linked below in the post, in the hopes that you’ll love them too!

My favorite sandals, handmade in Morocco in a process that takes three full days, got a fresh update this summer with this strappy style. I have been eyeing this oiled tobacco suitcase for ages, and finally took the plunge when my husband said he’d love to borrow from time to time too. In the summer, I get to ride through our beautiful State Parks by bicycle, or when I visit Mackinac Island where it’s the only way to get around, so I use this beautiful Nantucket style basket to keep all of my belongings secure while I ride.
Another summer activity I love is swimming, and since we have a pool, I’ve been laying out in this beautiful botanical print suit, and this gorgeous basket bag, the newest in my ever-growing collection, along with this fish shaped bag I just can’t get enough of. I love to throw on this white ruffle dress, or these wide legged striped pants over my swimsuit once I’m done – they’re both perfect for heading out to dinner after a day at the beach.
When it comes to accessorizing, I don’t think any outfit is complete without earrings like these gold coin earrings, or these beautiful pearl statement earrings, named after my art obsessed Italian ancestors. What can I say? Loving both art and life must run in the family. These hoops are a more budget friendly version of the gold hoops everyone on Instagram is obsessed with this season.
My number one beauty concern in the summertime is caring for my skin, and ensuring that I keep it hydrated and protected from the sun. I love wearing this sunhat to keep the sun off my face, these sunglasses to prevent squint induced crows feet, and this rose infused sheet mask to undo any dark spots or freckles caused by errant rays of sunshine. This admittedly intimidating skin tool helps increase circulation in the face, reduces puffiness, and encourages healing, so if you happen to be on the receiving end of too many UV rays and wind up with a sunburn, pop this bad boy in the freezer for a few moments, then gently rub upwards on your face to encourage healing. I like to pair this with organic lavender oil, which can help heal burns and sooth tender skin (but never use on broken skin!).
On top of skin care, I always take extra good care of my hair in the summer months to keep it long, shiny and healthy. I rinse with cold water after washing out my conditioner, then I detangle gently with this eco-friendly wide tooth comb. This helps prevent split ends and ultimately helps my hair grow longer and stronger. While I do my daily haircare ritual, I like to burn these unconventional incense to unwind, and they help my wet hair smell even better as it dries.
Once I’m done with my hair, I dot the smallest amount of this oil perfume along my pulse points and head to work for the day. It smells like a tropical paradise and pairs unbelievably well with the gentle scent of my incense. I get compliments on it all the time (now you know my secret Jasmine and Kara haha). If I’m feeling spicy, I swipe on some of this super fool proof lip color by Clarins. It stays on all day and gives my lips the perfect pop of summer color.
Food & Drinks
Since returning from our holiday in Japan last month, I have been obsessed with drinking fresh matcha both hot and iced (this one is my favorite, and this one is also excellent too, both are pure and organic). This is the beautiful, traditional whisk I use to keep it from clumping and help encourage a smooth, even taste and texture. Matcha tea also helps skin elasticity and firmness, and it helps keep me hydrated.
Keep an eye out for Vol 2. coming next week! What’re your summer essentials? Let me know in the comments below!
