We’d heard great things about Sorelle, one of Charleston‘s most popular Italian restaurants. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time in our travel schedule to pop in for dinner. Still, we squeezed in a visit to the new Sorelle Mercato for lunch, a gorgeous European-influenced café offering a wide assortment of pastries, salads, soups, pizza, and a fantastic selection of hot and cold beverages.

Ambience of Sorelle Mercato
Set inside Sorelle but limited to the café side of things, Sorelle Mercato was bustling the entire time we were there, yet the staff moved everyone through with fluidity and ease. The bright and airy space, filled with decor, flowers, and merchandise, hints at Italian influences and adds color to the primarily white space. There was ample seating indoors and out, and it was all very welcoming.

Our Meals
We had a light lunch here and loved everything we ate. They were a bit limited on the gluten-free options, but that’s not uncommon for a café that isn’t exclusively gluten-free. Still, I could try one of their famous gluten-free cookies, a delicious salad, and a hearty vegetable soup with an iced matcha latté, the perfect mid-day pick-me-up.

My husband, who has no food restrictions, had a vast menu to choose from. He ordered soup and a slice of their pizza along with a coffee and had some of my salad, and he said it was all exquisite.

Final Thoughts
Sorelle Mercato was delicious. Everything we ordered was really great. Other guests were happy and smiling, the staff were so friendly and kind, and it simply felt like a joyful place to lunch. If you’re in Charleston and want something quick, healthy, and delicious, Sorelle Mercato is a great option!
