Royal Alcázar of Seville Palace & Gardens
Royal Alcázar of Seville, or Real Alcazár, is a 10th-century palace and garden complex. Formerly the site of an Islamic citadel, it’s one of the grandest and most beautiful palaces in Europe. Strolling the grounds felt like stepping back in time. Countless fountains, colorful patches of handmade tiles, works of art, and garden beds made the massive palace feel even bigger.
If Royal Alcazár looks familiar, that’s because it probably is! It’s the home of plenty of famous movie and TV scenes. Most notably, this UNESCO World Heritage Site was where nearly all of the Dornish scenes in Game of Thrones were filmed. Here’s what to know before visiting and my favorite photos from our time there.

When to Visit
Get there early in the morning to beat the crowds. When we first arrived, it wasn’t very busy as we were one of the earlier time slots. But, by the time we left, there were impassable throngs of people gathered around pretty spots for photos. Plus, going earlier in the day isn’t as hot! Try to make it one of the first things you do, if you can.
With a little planning, you can book your digital ticket and select your time slot in advance. We did it the day of our visit, but I’d recommend checking at least a week or two ahead of your visit to get your desired time.

Final Thoughts
This was one of many highlights of our time in Seville. It was one of the most exquisite palaces and gardens we’ve ever visited, and we’ve been to dozens around the world. I can’t recommend visiting enough. It’s the perfect blend of incredible Islamic architecture, Iberian garden and landscaping styles, handmade Spanish tiles, and breathtaking views from the various high points.
