Swimming is one of my favorite things to do in the summertime. As soon as it’s warm enough to hit the pool or beach, I’m there, making the most of the warm weather. Being from the north, the swimming season is generally rather short, but that’s part of what makes it so precious. I like to make the most out of my time in the water, or relaxing near the water, looking and feeling my best. That’s why I’ve partnered with MERSEA, a gorgeous woman-owned travel wear brand dedicated to sustainability and artistry, to share my pool day essentials!

Straw Hat
I have more than 45 straw hats I’ve been given by loved ones, acquired on my travels, and received in collaborations over the years. I have very fair skin that burns easily, and I can’t tan, so I need to protect myself from the sun no matter what I’m doing. Whether I’m gardening, enjoying the beach, hiking, exploring a new city, or at the beach, I ensure that my face, neck, and chest are protected from harmful UV rays with a wide, floppy hat. I also wear my favorite sensitive skin-approved sunscreen too!
This 100% straw hat from MERSEA is handwoven by artisans in Morocco, which means no two are alike. I like this hat’s organic look and feel; the wide brim protects my skin!
Ps. How cute was this St. Regis Atlanta coconut? It was so yummy!
Timeless Swimsuit
I have always favored one-piece swimsuits. They’re more comfortable when I’m swimming, and I don’t have to worry about them popping up like other styles, haha. The one I’m wearing here is an older style from Solid and Striped Swim, but I also love Agua by Agua Bendita’s swimwear. Her swimsuits are handmade in Colombia, and the styles, cuts, and fit are so lovely.
Linen Wrap
This MERSEA linen wrap is available in six lovely, versatile colors. It can be worn as a pareo like I’m wearing here, as a scarf, a shawl, or in numerous other ways. It can even be tied as a dress, halter top, or worn in the hair. It is sheer, so you’d need to wear something beneath it, but this speaks to the piece’s versatility. It’s so soft, lightweight, and well-made. Plus, it comes with a linen envelope that works as a carrying or storage pouch for this piece, making it even easier to pack up and travel.

Kindle or A Good Book
I read around 75 novels a year, mainly when I’m in transit or lounging at a pool or beach. Relaxing in the sun with a good book is one of the many reasons I love to go swimming. There’s nothing quite like taking a dip and then relaxing with a great story. I’ve given Kindles to several of my family and friends who love to read, and they have loved them. I prefer the texture and scent of real paper and the weight of it in my hands, but maybe someday, as I continue to travel, I’ll reduce my carry-on weight by investing in an eReader for myself!
