Organizing My Closet

I LOVE being organized. It makes life so much simpler, and it’s a fun to keep track of what I own. When it comes to clothing, I think my number one tip for staying organized and ensuring that I wear all of my clothes (not just a select few pieces), would to be organize by color! It’s SO simple, and it allows me to easily see what I can pair with what I’m wearing on any given day.

While this is an older photo of my closet, it’s an example of how organizing by color can help showcase what you already own. Before doing this, I had no idea that I owned 8 white button up shirts. Being more organized helped me realize what my wardrobe had enough of, what I had too much of, and what I could keep an eye out for the next time I go shopping. A strategy like this does take some initial work, what with pulling most of the clothing out of a closet, and figuring out how you’d like it organized, the initial investment is well worth the time I save getting dressed each day.

There are lots of different ways to organize a closet, whether it’s ROYGBIV, in order of the colors you wear the most, or organized by the type of clothing (all dresses together, all shirts together, all skirts together, then perhaps broken down by color as well). It may seem like a small thing to do, but it has saved me literal hours of my life and lots of money. I used to stand in front of my closet pulling out item after item, feeling like I had nothing while a pile of clothing grew at my feet, which I would later spend time picking up. Now, I simply have an idea of the main piece I want to wear, and I find pieces that coordinate around it, which makes getting dressed and feeling put together so much simpler.
