Nordvegan, Oslo’s Vegan Haven
We never eat meat, and at least two or three days of each week, we eat vegan. Especially when we travel, it seems prudent to offset any environmental impacts and reduce our environmental footprint by eating vegan as often as possible. So, we did some digging into Oslo’s vegan scene and found one that was celebrated far and wide— so much so that I’d heard of them all the way back home in New England—Nordvegan. Nordvegan exceeded our high expectations and offered a wide array of sustainable, vegan, ethically sourced, gluten-free foods that were perfect for our unique dietary needs.

Our Meals
Everything we ate at this award-winning restaurant was exceptional. They were accommodating of my gluten allergy, and the staff knew how to make every dish in a way I could eat, which was a huge relief. They barely have any gluten on their menu, and what they do make they keep separate from the rest of their ingredients, which further set my mind at ease. No one wants to get glutened, especially while traveling.

A bit like Sweetgreen, we ordered at the counter and customized our meals with additions or substitutions at little to no extra cost. The portions were generous, everything was so flavorful and fragrant, and they source their ingredients as locally as possible to reduce the environmental impact of each dish.

Above: Thai Yellow Curry (Gluten-Free version)
The Thai Yellow Curry isn’t strictly gluten-free as it’s listed on the menu, but because of Nordvegan’s DIY-style serving, they made it so I could enjoy my meal without worry. This was so incredible that I’d book a trip back just for this!

Above: Buddha Bowl
Again, we completely customized our Buddha Bowl. We added plenty of roasted vegetables, kimchi, greens, and gluten-free tempeh. It was phenomenal!

Above: Vegan Sushi
This vegan sushi was a special they had, and was made fresh with avocado, cucumber, marinated tofu, and roasted mushrooms, topped with gluten-free & vegan spicy mayo & “eel” sauce. Like everything else, it was delectable.

The Verdict
As previously stated, I’d return to Oslo just to eat here again (although I loved everything else about Oslo, too!) If you’re vegan, vegetarian, have food allergies, or simply want a fresh, healthy, and flavorful meal in Oslo that will leave you feeling great, Nordvegan is my recommendation. Oh, they have an entire case of vegan-friendly (and allergy-friendly) desserts, too!
