Newport Harbor Island Resort

There are many wonderful places to stay in Newport, Rhode Island, but my favorite so far is Newport Harbor Island Resort. Located in a fantastic location near the heart of downtown, its water views, wonderful excursions, and fantastic food make it a favorite of luxury travelers from around the world. We stayed during the Newport Oyster and Chowder Festival, and we had a wonderful time exploring Newport, eating delicious seafood, and relaxing.

Arrival at Newport Harbor Island Resort

We drove right up, the bellman unloaded our bags, and we self-parked our car simply because we planned to drive around town a bit. They got us into our hotel room around noon, much earlier than their estimated 4 pm check-in time. They also gave us a complimentary upgrade! They went way above and beyond for us, and we didn’t even have to ask for an early check-in. The staff here were fantastic!

Ambience of Newport Harbor Island Resort

Located in gorgeous Newport, Rhode Island, it’s hard to go wrong with any of the hotels. That said, Newport Harbor Island Resort, formerly Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina, re-opened under new management with a beautiful coastal facelift. With these changes came improvements to the spa, outdoor pool, and dining areas, and a full redecorating of the hotel. It was lovely, classic, and romantic.

Our Waterview King Room & Its Amenities

Our hotel room overlooking the ocean was perfect for exploring Newport, RI. We had a large bed, a sitting area, a spacious bathroom and bedroom, and an entryway. The relaxing color palette was another welcome addition to the room. I may or may not have taken photos specifically to influence our home renovations!

I love when hotels include little extras to make guests feel more welcome, like makeup remover wipes, small sunscreen or bug spray, or, like Wildflower Farms in Hudson Valley, guidebooks and binoculars to explore. Newport Harbor Island Resort had everything we needed for a great resort stay.

Our room was pristine. Everything was beautiful, comfortable, and inviting. We loved the gorgeous view, the comfortable bed, and everything else in the room. It was clear that lots of time and attention went into sourcing, decorating, and making the room inviting. According to the front desk, most of the decor was sourced right here in Rhode Island!

The Torpedo Room

The on-site restaurant, The Torpedo Room, had amazing food. We loved everything we ate, and I’d go back again soon. Read the full review here. For now, here are some mouth-watering photos as an amuse-bouche!

The Spa

We had wonderful massages here. While the spa was small, what it lacked in jeuje was more than made up for in the skill of my masseuse. It was also another fantastic vantage point of the water and a great place to shop for any last-minute toiletries like sunscreen or beach towels.

Final Thoughts

We had a splendid time. Harbor Island Resort is as beautiful and relaxing as it looks. Newport, arguably one of New England’s most luxurious coastal destinations, never disappoints. Everything from the food, our room, and the views to the staff, proximity to downtown, and comfort of our stay were all top-notch. In fact, I’d love to visit again soon. If you’re looking for a great place to stay in Rhode Island with beautiful views of the ocean and the charming Claiborne Pell Bridge, Newport Harbor Island Resort is a great place to stay.
