The ingredients in the things that I put on my skin are becoming increasingly important to me. What goes on our skin will eventually be absorbed by our skin end up in the bloodstream via dermal absorption. That’s why over the past few years, I’ve been transitioning to more clean beauty products, to limit my exposure to phthalates (which are endocrine disrupters, i.e., hormone disruptors that are banned in the European Union but commonly used in the US), and other harsh chemicals which might irritate my skin. I have somewhat dry, sensitive skin. One of the biggest challenges was finding a cleaner moisturizer that hydrated my skin, particularly in the summer, without irritating my skin or leaving a strange, lingering scent. When I found what’s now my go-to summer moisturizer a few months ago, it checked all of the boxes, and then some!
My Go-To Summer Moisturizer
In addition to wanting a moisturizer that didn’t contain harsh chemicals or phthalates, I also wanted a moisturizer that wasn’t tested on animals, had a minimal environmental impact, didn’t smell weird, and ideally looked nice in photos (which, of course, wasn’t a requirement but it would have been a plus haha). When I discovered Baiobay Organic Coconut Oil moisturizer, I wanted to try it because it’s not only a woman-owned company, but it’s also vegan & cruelty-free. Plus, it’s so pure that you could eat it!
It should have been obvious from the beginning that simple is best when it comes to skincare, but I had been dissuaded from using pure coconut oil on my skin, fearing breakouts or clogged pores. Despite knowing this wasn’t the case, I was worried that putting oil onto my skin would cause these issues, but in my experience, this couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, my Keratosis Pilaris on my upper arms has almost completely disappeared after using Baiobay Organic Coconut Oil moisturizer in conjunction with a Korean exfoliating cloth.
I find that during the summertime, my skin requires a lot more attention than it does in the winter, and my go-to summer moisturizer doesn’t leave any lingering odors; it absorbs quickly, it isn’t sticky or oily after it’s applied, and the only difference before and after applying it is that my skin feels much softer, smoother, and my skin tone is more even.
Why Baiobay Organic Coconut Oil
I could go to the grocery store and pick up a jar of coconut oil, but that oil is refined for cooking, whereas Baiobay Organic Coconut Oil is made in France specifically for skin. Plus, they plant a tree through Trees for the Future for each tube of coconut oil sold. The shipping & container packaging is also made from 100% recycled materials; it’s all completely recyclable. The paper boxes the moisturizer tubes arrive in are printed with 100% vegetable ink so they can biodegrade easily.
I love that they balance clean beauty ethos, sustainability, an effective organic formula (100% organic, cold-pressed coconut oil), with aesthetics for a truly lovely skincare experience, without harsh chemicals, phthalates, or wasteful shipping packaging.
I also love their hydrating gel-cream that utilizes coconut water and hyaluronic acid to moisturize and plumpen skin with a light, liquid texture that applies easily and doesn’t leave any sort of residue like other gel-creams I’ve tried. This is my go-to hand gel-cream for summer. In addition, their moisturizing & exfoliating face & lip scrub, which does contain a fragrance, leaves my lips soft and hydrated. I haven’t tried it on my face because I don’t use harsh scrubs on my delicate facial skin. If you’re avoiding fragrances, either of their other two products works well for the lips as well.
