I first heard of Amanda Chantal Bacon’s alchemical outpost, Moon Juice in West Hollywood, when I was looking for vegan protein supplements. I had stumbled across her website about a year ago, and ordered some of the adaptogenic supplements and her cookbook, because I was curious to see if her products work as well as she claimed. My husband and I enjoy eating well and taking care of ourselves inside and out, so naturally we are interested in things that might make this process simpler, like quality supplements, and easy to recreate recipes.
The focus of my blog isn’t to try to win you over to buy “supplements” (haha, that sounds so sketchy!), and I’m not a nutritionist, but I will say that we liked the products we tried so much, that Moon Juice was our very first stop in West Hollywood. It’s fun to mix together the powders they sell and blend them in with smoothies, or even use them in baking, to get the nutrition I’d otherwise be lacking in my diet. If you’re interested in the brand’s philosophy of “[utilizing] herbs, mushrooms and minerals that help protect the body from stress-induced dysfunction, on a cellular level”, that celebrities like Alexis Ren, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Emma Roberts have wholeheartedly embraced and even swear by, it’s worth a shot. I’m not one to believe things just because famous people like it, but I do think that what we eat affects our health, mood, and to an extent, our attitude, and Moon Juice products are free of wheat, sugars, dairy and soy, which are common allergens, and all products except for the ones that contain pearls are vegan and organic.
I have been vegetarian going on 10 years, and I’ve been vegan for about a year of that time, and during my journey away from meat, dairy, soy, and now after being diagnosed with a severe gluten intolerance, wheat, I’ve had to adjust my diet to ensure that I can do right by my morals and body, while ensuring I get the proper nutrition (which is why I was searching for vegan protein supplements last year!). I love that there are options like Moon Juice out there for people like who me who take what they put into their body seriously. I am not advocating that you go vegan, or only drink super-elixir juices from Moon Juice, but studies show that a majority of Americans are not getting the nutrients they need, so I do think it’s worthwhile to consult with your physician, learn about nutrition, and figure out what works for your own body, because we all have unique needs.
I’m so thankful that I’m learning how to take care of myself, despite my gluten intolerance and decision to eschew meat and dairy products. Personally, I found that Moon Juice’s pre-bottled drinks were the perfect boost of fresh, delicious energy while we were gallivanting around under the California sun. If you’re ever in the area, I recommend popping in and treating yourself to some high-end alchemical elixirs, just to give it a shot.
Keep an eye out for my guide to West Hollywood, coming soon!
