One of my best friends from my sorority days got married on New Year’s Eve (Hi, Anna!). It was a beautiful wedding with a black tie optional dress code, so I thought, what better time to break out this gorgeous mirrored dress and the coordinating mirrored bowtie my husband and I have been saving for a special occasion? I ran the dress past the bride to be sure because, believe it or not, there wasn’t anything online about the etiquette of wearing such a thing to an event like this, haha. With her enthusiastic approval, we made our way back to Michigan for the event and had a fantastic time ringing in the New Year during their beautiful Romanian – American wedding!
The following images were taken with my iPhone 11, so they are not quite my usual quality, but they are still such fun snaps nonetheless. Maybe I’ll break out my camera and put this back on someday soon to get better photos of it!

No, sadly I did not carry the German grocery bag for the evening, haha. It contained our wrapped gift, heels, and my clutch. We received so many compliments on our outfits it was a bit overwhelming. From our friend’s and their neighhbors when we stopped by to drop something off and the employees and shoppers at Meijer when we went to pick up some water, we were stopped literally dozens of times that night, before even getting to the wedding.
I’m not joking when I say I’ve never received more compliments and questions about where something came from than I have while wearing this dress!

The idea to look for a mirrored dress stemmed from my love of all things sparkly and mirrored. When I was younger and played tennis regularly, I had a pair of mirrored sunglasses I wore during a match once and I unintentionally flashed the sunlight from my glasses into another player’s face, so we redid the point (without my glasses) and though my partner and I still won, that time reminded me of wearing this dress – if I wasn’t careful, it was extremely shiny and reflective!
My dear friend’s wedding was such a beautiful affair. It turned out, just as she said it would, that my mirrored ensemble perfectly reflected (hehe see what I did there?) the theme of the evening. Everything from the seating chart to the card box and various other elements around their venue was mirrored, so it was lovely! The black cashmere wrap helped tone down the wild reflectiveness of this dress, and though it was my first time wearing it, I’m already looking forward to breaking it out when I can let it really shine!
To everyone reading this, I hope 2023 is your best year yet! Happy New Year!
