Midtown Oyster Bar has the most extensive raw bar in Newport and is one of the city’s most popular eateries. We received numerous suggestions to try this place while in Newport, and so as massive seafood fans, we didn’t hesitate to try it out. I’m so glad we did because it was not only some of the best seafood we’ve had in Rhode Island, but we also had a great time learning about oysters and lobsters. Knowledge + great food, what’s not to love?

Our Meals
I couldn’t go to Newport’s largest oyster bar without getting oysters! We started off with a selection of Raw and Baked Oysters. Oysters are some of my favorite seafood, and I love trying new varieties, so their large selection was the perfect way to satisfy my curiosity. The raw bar at Midtown Oyster had an awesome selection that changes regularly to showcase local and seasonally available seafood. My favorite was the Aquidneck, RI oysters.

Robin and the friends we dined with shared Rhode Island Calamari. Served with cornmeal, pickled onion, sweet pepper sauce, it looked and smelled amazing! Oh look, another gorgeous lemon squeeze shot! Haha.
I had the Crabmeat Ceviche, although they ended up having to bring me a different one after I requested it without the gluten chips and they brought us this. Our server was so nice about it though, and allow as well. This was SO flavorful and delicious! The avocado, cucumber, microgreens, onion, and heirloom cherry tomatoes with plenty of lemon juice brought it all together perfectly.
Our friend ordered the Ale Battered Fish and Chips and said it was incredible. The batter was so loud and crunchy, they said it was perfection.
Robin ordered the hot buttered Signature Lobster Roll which came with a mountain of French fries and butter poached lobster on a toasted roll. He said it was exquisite and so succulent.
Final Thoughts
Everything at Midtown Oyster Bar was delicious and so fresh. The restaurant is so much fun, the staff are great and take allergies very seriously, and I wouldn’t have changed anything about our meal. We dined on their rooftop open deck, and watched the sunset over Newport and had a lovely time. I highly recommend this spot!
