We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at The New York Restaurant in Harbor Springs, and loved the variety of options they had for different diets. There were plenty of choices for a gluten free diet or even vegans, as well as plenty of options for pescatarians. I love the the decor was so classic and understated, and the atmosphere of the restaurant was relaxed and unfussy.
My favorite part of this restaurant was how they took northern classics, like whitefish and turned them into creative dishes, like Whitefish Ravioli with tomato horse radish cream, which was positively delicious, by the way. In addition to sampling the Whitefish Ravioli, we also tried the Roasted Garlic and red peppers with warm goat cheese, toasted bread works baguette, and the Arugula Salad featuring baby arugula tossed with red onion, tomato, shaved parmesan and a grilled artichoke with lemon and honey vinaigrette.
For our entrées, we had the Scampi Riva with wild caught gulf shrimp sauteed with tomato, spinach, kalamata olives and garlic tossed with spinach and egg linguini and balsamic vinegar sauce. I had the Faro Risotto Primavera with spelt grains cooked risotto style with seasonal vegetables, fresh herbs and parmesan cheese, which was simply delicious. As a side, we also had the Sweet Potato Fritters and Twice Baked Potatoes, and everything was simply fantastic.
Dessert was a beautiful lemon and blueberry cream cake handmade by the owners. While it isn’t always on the menu, it’s worth asking about the daily dessert specials. It was one of the best sweets we’ve ever had.
Our server was so kind and helpful, and probably one of the best servers we’ve ever had because he was so happy, helpful, and kind to us. I wish I remembered his name, because he went out of his way to ensure we had a wonderful dinner, and spent quite a bit of time chatting with us telling us stories of his 20 plus years working here. He mentioned how great the job was, how wonderful the owners were to him and everyone else, and that he genuinely loved serving others, which is a very rare and admirable trait to have.
Overall, we loved our meal at The New York Restaurant in Harbor Springs, and if you’re ever in town, I can’t recommend dining here enough!
Until next time!
