I’ve had my eye on the Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 55 Monogram Duffle Bag for more than a year and half, but it’s been constantly out of stock from the Louis Vuitton website, and after having a bad experience buying from a resale website that claimed to sell authentic designer items, I was certain I was out of luck. While perusing Shopbop’s website, I stumbled upon their two designer resale sections, and after reading how thoroughly and carefully they authenticate their bags, I decided to buy an authentic, second-hand Louis Vuitton duffle bag, exactly like the one I’d had my eyes on!
Why I Chose a Secondhand Bag
As I mentioned, I had been searching for a Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 55 Monogram Duffle Bag for more than a year, but no stores had it in stock. Buying secondhand was a way for me to get my hands on this hard to find bag, without having to wait indefinitely. It was also about $500 cheaper than a bag directly from Louis Vuitton, and it had a patina that would have taken awhile to develop from a new bag, which I loved.
Buying secondhand is also far more sustainable and eco-friendly than buying brand new, because it gives new life to a beautiful bag without further contributing to the fashion industry’s waste. A quick Google search indicates that between 4-25 percent of landfills, which varies by location, is waste from the fashion industry and textile working. Buying secondhand is great not only for our wallets, but for the planet as well, by contributing to the circular economy of secondhand and vintage shopping and reducing both waste and demand for new materials.
Why I Chose to Buy It From Shopbop
As I mentioned, Shopbop has two authentic designer resale sections on their website, both featuring brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi, Gucci, and Prada. The first is What Comes Around Goes Around, which is a designer vintage shop that has storefronts in SOHO and Beverly Hills. The second is the Shopbop Archives, which offers an assortment of the same brands as WCAGA, and they are also extensively authenticated by Shopbop’s team of experts.
I went with the Shopbop Archives simply because they had the style of bag I wanted, but I’d purchase either because I trust that unlike the bad experience I had with another less reputable resale site, I trust that Shopbop, owned by Amazon, wouldn’t sell fake handbags. They also offer a guarantee that their bag is authentic, and they provide lots of information so authenticity can be confirmed before purchasing a new iconic handbag.
How the Bag Was Packaged & What Came With It
My Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 55 Monogram Duffle Bag arrived in a large cardboard box, filled with large bubble wrap, wrapped in plastic, and stuffed with air pillows to help keep its shape.
In addition to the bag itself, which of course came with the shoulder/crossbody strap, the bag came with a Louis Vuitton luggage tag and handle strap to keep the top handles neatly closed as it would have from the store. It did not include any sort of dust bag or the lock and key as it would have if bough directly from the Louis Vuitton website. They sent along a thin black satin drawstring bag, but without folding the bag up into fourths, there was absolutely no way the duffle would have fit inside, and I donated it. This isn’t something Louis Vuitton sells, and was included in lieu of the authentic dust bag as a courtesy from Shopbop.
How I Knew It Was the Real Deal
I had my bag authentic by several different online services, and asked in the “Authenticate this Louis Vuitton” Facebook Group, all of which unanimously agreed it was a beautiful, authentic, vintage Louis Vuitton bag.
Why I Love the Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 55 Monogram Duffle Bag
My bag arrived looking brand new, with nearly no wear whatsoever, aside from a slight patina on the handles and strap which I find much more beautiful than brand new looking bags, so this was a plus for me.
This bag is the perfect carry-on, overnight bag for both my husband and I, weekend bag, or road trip companion. It holds enough clothing for 3 or more days, as well as my camera gear, and it’s extremely sturdy, so I don’t worry about stuffing it full for an adventure.
The Louis Vuitton Keepall Bandoulière 55 Monogram Duffle Bag also perfectly compliments my Steamline Luggage.
