While in Kent, CT, we explored the charming town and were repeatedly encouraged to try Kinglsey Tavern. I’m so glad we did! Everything was tasty and fresh, and the service was excellent. We dined outside, and though it was humid, it gave us a lovely view of the sunset. This restaurant was like the rest of Kent, such a pleasant surprise. It’s not often we find such spectacular food in small towns, but this restaurant wouldn’t be out of place in any sprawling metropolis and was a perfect way to end our first night in beautiful Kent.

Ambience of Kingsley Tavern
The tavern felt like a place where everyone knew each other. I saw several diners leave their tables to greet acquaintances and watched as two tables moved closer to sit together on the porch. It was definitely a lively place, and though the interior wasn’t a place I spent much time, it was lovely, and the low lighting was very cozy.
Our Meals
I wasn’t feeling well most of our trip due to some personal matters, but this meal was a surprising pick-me-up. Isn’t it funny how good food can brighten your mood a bit? Our meal at Kingsley Tavern did just that. Even though I didn’t have much of an appetite, we still sampled numerous things, and my husband more than made up for that fact, haha.
We started off with sweet New Brunswick Oysters. Anyone who knows me knows that oysters are one of my favorite foods, and these were so refreshing and delicious. Plus, the way they served the accouterments was something I’d never seen before. Frozen rather than liquid, the pickled red onion, tabasco, and horseradish granitas were a great way to cool down, plus the seaweed around it looked really cool.
Robin had the Crispy Fried Calamari and said it was some of the best he’d ever had.
The Local Tomato Shortcake was another lovely summertime dish Robin tried and really enjoyed.
We also had the Falafel, which was delicious too. I loved the fresh cucumbers and tomatoes, locally sourced from a nearby farm. They were so flavorful and colorful!
Nonalcoholic Watermelon Lemonade was light and refreshing!
Final Thoughts
Everything here was excellent. Our food was great, our servers were so friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, and the atmosphere was fun and lighthearted, which was precisely what we needed. A weekend getaway in Kent, CT, is such a fantastic reason to kick back, relax, and reconnect with loved ones, and a meal at Kingsley Tavern is a great addition to this.
