If you know me, you know that I refuse to sacrifice comfort for style, because I know I don’t have to. That’s why I simply adore Birdies and their range of stunning flats that are secretly a slipper. They have seven layers of cushioned comfort, there’s no break in time, and they’re so versatile that I can wear them from a business meeting to brunch with my girlfriends to cocktails and dancing with my husband without missing a beat! When I travel, I don’t want to have to always wear tennis shoes for comfort, and I can’t usually hike up a mountain path, walk 15 miles a day, and stroll the beach at sunset in a pair of wedges. Birdies loafers however, are so versatile and chic that they go with anything, and they’re just as comfortable as my tennis shoes. I usually get blisters really easily, and as a result I have to cover the insides of my shoes in mole skin and bandage my toes preemptively, but I took my Birdies on a hike around my alma mater, The University of Michigan, and I walked about 2 hours without feeling any pain or discomfort. In fact, it was like walking on clouds because of the layers of cushioning and incredible arch support.

In case you’re a curious mind just as I am, here’s the breakdown of the inside of a Birdies shoe:
1st layer: Soft, quilted satin
2nd layer: Arch and heel support
3rd layer: Premium cushioning
4th and 5th layer: Dual-layered, high-density foam
6th layer: Shock absorption
7th layer: Memory foam cushioning
I’ve never seen another footwear brand that was so proud of what they put into their shoes, and after walking in Birdies, I can see why they’re excited to show it all off.
In addition to being super versatile, stylish, and comfortable, Birdies gives back to their community, and donates a portion of each sale to Project Glimmer, which is a non-profit that helps support underprivileged teenage girls so that they can succeed in the classroom and beyond. About their partnership with Project Glimmer Birdies says
“As a brand born of women, dedicated to serving women, giving back is deeply personal to us. We are profoundly grateful for, and forever touched by, all the remarkable women who have supported us throughout our journey at Birdies. Now it’s our turn to pay it forward by shaping and lifting up future generations of women through our partnership with Project Glimmer.”
As a non-profit, Project Glimmer was started when the founder, Sonja Hoel Perkins, learned that many toy drives for children provide entertainment and education to underserved children, teenage girls were the group most likely to be left out during the holidays. Sonja wanted to change this, and collected teenage girl approved gifts from loved ones and the charity was born out of the idea that when young women know that their community hasn’t forgotten them, and when they feel supported, they feel worthy of success and develop confidence, thereby becoming empowered. I can’t think of a much better non-profit to support than that!
As far as sizing, I took my regular size and absolutely love them! I have slightly wide feet, and sometimes I have to size up in shoes to accommodate my wide feet, which can cause gapping or improper fit, but because Birdies are made from natural materials like leather, they stretch and mold perfectly to my feet, which makes them even more comfortable!
