Our time in Hallstatt was absolutely breathtaking. If you know me, you know I’d choose the mountains over a beach any day, and Hallstatt captured my heart from the moment I stepped off the boat onto its gorgeous, storied shores. During our time in this picturesque mountainside village in Austria, we stayed at Hallstatt Hideaway in their beautiful Alpine Deluxe Suite HOLZ (Holz means wood in German). With a private sauna, private garden by the lake, full kitchen, and stunning view of the lake and mountains from our suite, there wasn’t a single thing we would change about our time here. Our stay was phenomenal from the moment we arrived until we begrudgingly checked out before making our way to Munich three days later. I hope we return to this breathtaking place soon, and when we do, we intend to stay here again.

Arrival at Hallstatt Hideaway
Before we even reached the village, the owners of Hallstatt Hideaway contacted us to ensure we knew how to find our way through the winding streets of Hallstatt to reach the resort. While the roads were tricky to navigate at first, they soon became second nature, and with the use of Google Maps, we made our way there in no time. Upon arrival, the hotel’s owner walked us to our room, helped us with our bags, and explained the processes to us. Our rooms would be cleaned every day unless we asked them not to be for privacy, firewood was stacked high outside the private garden near our suite, the fully stocked kitchen was at our disposal, and if we needed anything else, she promised she was just a text, call, or email away.
Ambience of Hallstatt Hideaway
This place reminded us of our cabin in Northern Michigan, and we immediately felt at home. The room was spacious, and the Baroque-meets-modern architecture combined with the Alpine decor and stunning views of Lake Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut Mountains made this spacious suite feel very welcoming. Everything was peaceful, serene, and quiet during our entire stay; we never heard nor saw another guest.
The private saunas and hot tub made our stay feel truly relaxing. After long days of hiking, we’d bathe, steam, and soak away our sore muscles, leaving us refreshed and ready to further explore the beautiful Alpine village the following day. I truly did not want to leave this place when it was time to depart!

Our Suite & Its Amenities
Our room had a private sauna, full kitchen, wood burning stove, and a massive pile of firewood just outside in the private entryway, plus lake views, a private hot tub, standing shower, and private lake access with plenty of space to sit and relax near the water. The location of it was right downtown, yet it was totally silent.
Despite the city having plenty of day guests each day of our stay, with the door and windows closed, we couldn’t hear or see anyone, making it feel like it was our private hideaway.
Our suite had everything one would expect from a luxurious resort. The four-poster bed was handmade from lumber from the forest and featured hand-dyed linen curtains that we could pull to keep the sun out on days we wanted to sleep later. The toiletries in the bathroom were organic and oh-so gentle on our skin. I generally don’t use hotel toiletries; instead, I bring my own, but these were so great I couldn’t resist using them daily. An abundance of crisp, organic linens, robes, towels, and more meant we never had to feel uncomfortable with rough towels, and the towel warmer in the bathroom was a massive hit with me because I’m always cold. In fact, we’re getting one for our own master bathroom at home.

In addition to a bookcase stocked with books from around the world, there was a massive, hand-carved wooden table near the big windows pictured above that was the perfect place to eat meals made in the full kitchen when we weren’t out at one of Hallstatt’s excellent restaurants. The wood-burning stove in our suite added a romantic touch to the room and kept the chill away. One of my favorite nights in Hallstatt was hiking up to the village’s salt mine after a long day to see the World Heritage View of Hallstatt from its highest point. Upon our return, we bathed, saunaed, soaked in the hot tub, bathed again, made a lovely meal, and ate it together near the fireplace with the windows flung open to enjoy the beautiful mountain breeze without getting too hot.

We spent the rest of the evening playing games, reading together, and simply being together, and it was one of the highlights of our trip to spend such a beautiful time with my husband. Thinking of it now makes me tear up a little. I really can’t describe how perfect our time not only here at Hallstatt Hideaway was, but in Austria in general. It was so wonderful, and we are already planning a return visit. Simply put, it felt like home, and we made beautiful memories that I’ll keep with me for the rest of my life.

Dining at Hallstatt Hideaway
While the resort doesn’t have its own restaurant, as I mentioned, it has a full kitchen, and it’s located near numerous great eateries in the village. Just keep in mind that the restaurants close early here, and many book out a couple of weeks in advance, depending upon the season. I recommend going to the village’s grocery store and cooking meals here. It’s such a fun way to spend time with loved ones, enjoy a healthy, home-cooked meal, and eat while enjoying the view of the lake. It’s simply unparalleled.
Keep in mind that there’s also a grill and plenty of places to eat down by the resort’s private lakefront garden, next to the police station too!

Final Thoughts on Our Stay
I loved our time here. This is one of my top-5 resort experiences in Europe, and that’s saying something because I’ve stayed in more than 50 luxury hotels around Europe and the UK. The staff was excellent, everything was immaculate, the views were unmatched, and everything was perfect. when it came time to leave, I tried to convince Robin that we should extend our stay, but despite how disappointed I was to leave, our next stop was Munich and Füssen, which allowed us to visit the incredible Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. If you’re planning a trip to Hallstatt and looking for a place to say, I can’t say enough good things about Hallstatt Hideaway.

Wow! Your photography is absolutely incredible! I want to go here so badly now. Did you find that it was challenging to find this place? I’ve heard Hallstatt can be difficult to navigate.

We stayed in this exact spot too!! Would certainly stay again if we go back (probably when it’s snowy 🥰) It had the same bed and view 🥰 we did do the salt mine tour which was fun but freezing! I don’t recommend doing it in the rain because there’s a long walk to and from the start and being wet inside the mountain exacerbates that cold 🥶
