I absolutely love restaurants with a lot of heart and soul, and that’s exactly what Gracias Madre, which means “thanks mom” in Spanish, has. Inspired by the love and the willingness to make sacrifices for their children that all mothers possess, Gracias Madre extends familial love to their guests by serving only the best organic, vegan dishes, made with love in the hopes that a meal can inspire one’s day to be the best it can be. The recipes used here were given to them by the mothers of their employees, who were native to Mexico, which allows guests to explore the cuisine of our neighbors to the south, and be inspired by the comforting flavors of each lovingly prepared dish.
We felt right at home in their large outdoor seating area, which can be rented out for events. It was around 11:15am when we sat down outside, and immediately another server came over to set up an umbrella and ensured that we were comfortable, despite the rising, hot sun. This act of kindness and expression of caring was the first of many we experienced here throughout our meal.
Our waiter brought us drinks and explained the menu to us, offering to help us order something we’d enjoy most. He seemed to genuinely care whether or not we enjoyed our meal, which meant so much to us, because it demonstrated how the ethos of the restaurant was being carried out by all of the staff. It turned out that everything we ordered was absolutely phenomenal. We enjoyed the Flautas de Camote which consisted of diced sweet potatoes, caramelized onions, guacamole, cashew nacho cheese, black beans, and pico de Gallo, the Tower of Spuds, which was a hearty pile of roasted potatoes, chorizo, cashew nacho cheese, pico de gallo, guacamole, and the Tofu Scramble comprised of broccoli, spinach, onion, mushroom, pesto cashew crème, avocado, salsa ranchero, black beans, tortillas.
The restaurant had a beautiful bar area that was fully stocked with domestic and import spirits, wines, and liquors, an ample indoor seating area reminiscent of the decor found in Tulum, and the outdoor area where we sat had a second bar, fireplace, umbrellas, a few trees, and wooden benches outfitted comfortably with pillows and cushions. We absolutely loved the way the eco-chic atmosphere of the restaurant intertwined with the bold pops of color both in the food and decor. It was the perfect place to enjoy delicious, comfort food flavors with a holistic, vegan twist!
