I’ve found very few bakeries sell anything gluten-free due to the complexities involved in preventing cross-contamination. Whenever I find a great bakery that offers gluten-free baked goods, even if it’s not a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, I am always curious. Run by Adam Young, who is known as the “Best Baker in America” after winning Food Network’s Best Baker in America, Sift Bake Shop in Mystic, CT, has won a plethora of awards and is famous globally for their gorgeous, creative, and delicious baked goods, foods, and artisanal confections.

The Ambience
Sift Bake Shop has a charmingly coastal vibe, and truly encapsulates all that’s “New England”. From the hydrangeas outside to the blue and white color scheme that’s so very nautical, Sift Bake Shop is not only Insta-worthy, but also such a lively and energetic place. From the moment we walked in the front door, everyone, patrons and staff alike, were smiling and everyone seemed so happy.
What’s not to love about that?

Sift Bake Shop Menu & Our Meals
Sift Bake Shop’s menu, which you may find here, is full of things like sandwiches, parfaits, cookies, brownies, and tons of bread. Their French influences mean that guests will also find macarons, sugary confections, and croissants. Since I cannot eat gluten, my options were a bit more limited than my husband’s, but we both ended up enjoying our food. Plus, we headed home with plenty to share with our loved ones!
I chose macarons and a gluten-free cookie for myself, but their cookies are so huge I still haven’t finished them, haha. I plan to share my macarons and the box of confections with our friends and loved ones.
Robin ordered a Smoked Salmon Sandwich on an everything croissant with heirloom tomato, pickled red onion, capers, and chive cream cheese. This looked SO delicious! He also got an assortment of pastries and cookies to have back at home, which he was super excited about.
Everything was fantastic and so flavorful. Sift Bake Shop’s bakers arrive around 3 am every morning to freshly bake everything in the shop, and once they’re sold out for the day, that’s it. There’s a certain level of excitement about “will we make it in time or won’t we?” when visiting Sift Bake Shop. We arrived around 1 pm, and they still had a fantastic selection. If you’re in the market for something particular, be sure to either call and order or order online ahead of time. Showing up early helps too!

Final Thoughts
I would definitely return to Sift Bake Shop. It’s so cute, and everything we ordered was really great. Robin is still enjoying all of his baked goods and will be for a few more days. Even when they aren’t fresh from the rack, they’re delicious!
