How beautiful are these vibrant, pink flamingos? I had the opportunity to photograph a flock of flamingos during a recent trip, and I was indescribably excited, because I love how oddly they stand or sleep, I adore their bright shade, and they’re just so unique! Did you know they get their bright colors from their diet? Flamingos eat primarily shrimp, and the vibrancy of their feathers is directly related to the quality of the shrimp they consume. I love this last photo, because the flamingo in the front ran in front of my camera and stood directly in front of the flamingo I’d intended to photograph, as though he was intentionally photobombing me. When photographing anything, I always use my Canon 5D Mark IV camera. It’s pricey, but it was well worth the investment, because my image quality is so much better than it had previously been, and I finally capture and share images that look the way the scenes do through my eyes. I have been into photography for more than a decade now, and this is the first professional camera I’ve ever owned, and I couldn’t be happier! I typically shoot with Canon or Tamron lenses because they offer superior image stability, multi-point focusing, and the lenses minimally distort the images (some lenses I’ve tried look like I’m photographing fun house mirrors and it’s such a waste of time to try to fix each image!). To edit, I use Adobe editing software on my 27″ iMac because of how large & bright the screen is, how vibrant the colors of the screen are, and how much detail I’m able to see. Until this summer I’d only ever used HP brand PC computers to edit, and the difference in quality since upgrading to an iMac is just incredible. If you’d like to check out the equipment I use, click below! I’ll explain when I use each lens in a future post!
No, this post isn’t sponsored by these companies even though it may sound like a sales pitch when I recite why I love the gear I’ve dumped thousands of dollars into (I wish Canon would collaborate with me! #callme), I’m just sharing what I’ve found through trial and error and lots of research! Cameras can be very confusing & complicated because there are endless variations, so many off brand items, and so many options for each situation. If you invest in the wrong equipment or buy something you can’t use and can’t return, it can be distressing! I’ll be creating another post on how to take great photos and which lenses I use in different situations so that you can up your photography game as well!
