Recently, we traveled to the Grand Canyon in northwestern Arizona near the borders of Utah and Nevada. From there, we could see the Colorado River rushing along, as well as incredible desert vistas and a gorgeous sandstone color palette all around us.
I inadvertently matched our surroundings but intentionally dressed in cool, comfortable layers. Several times, I’ve mentioned one of my all-time favorite loungewear brands, Skin. This brand, a woman-owned company, focuses on the celebration of feeling luxurious, relaxing, and focusing on what matters most: self-care. I love the array of versatile, comfortable, and stylish cuts, fabrics, and palettes they offer, so it’s no surprise that I’m growing quite the collection of their garments.
When traveling to the desert, I packed while keeping two things in mind: comfort and coolness. Temperatures during our two weeks in Arizona routinely soared well above 110º depending on what we were doing. It often felt even hotter. So, I packed airy, loose layers to protect my sensitive skin from the sun and lightweight, moisture-wicking knits that kept me comfortable. Of course, I kept the colors neutral, avoided dark colors that would absorb heat to stay cool, and topped them off with an oversized sun hat.

Outfit Details
Caftan / Skirt / Purse / Shoes (old) / Hat (handmade) / Necklace
I wore my usual size in everything, though I definitely could have sized down in the caftan (I’m wearing the “parchment” color). This caftan can not only be worn as an oversized blouse, as shown above, but it’s an excellent swim cover-up or tunic too, meaning it can be worn in numerous different ways. As such, it’s something I love to take with me on my travels. One piece really can do it all.
This skirt (I’m wearing the “bone” color) is SO soft, comfortable, breathable, and easy to toss on that I simply can’t get enough of it. I love how it can be dressed up or down, and it’s something that looks great on anyone. Plus, it has just enough stretch to move with you, so while doing a casual canyon hike (we didn’t do anything too serious – it was way too hot!), I was completely comfortable.
These desert textiles, woven cotton voile, and Pima cotton/spandex were perfect for warm temperatures and adventures!

Oh wow, I love this look! But, shouldn’t you have worn better shoes for hiking? Was the hike difficult?
