I typically receive at least one massage each month, as I believe that caring for our muscles and posture is a part of proper healthcare, and massages always improve my mood, energy levels, and help me to feel relaxed and restored. My first massage of the year was at Grand Traverse Resort Spa, and it was one of the best deep tissue massages I’ve ever received anywhere in the world. Here’s why you should do yourself a favor and visit the spa at Grand Traverse Resort & Spa whenever you’re in the Traverse City area.

Upon check-in, my husband and I were given the chance to change into a spa robe and spa slippers in the locker room, and we were then invited to relax in the relaxation lounge while we awaited our appointments. There was a roaring fire going in the hearth, and the lights were dim, which made it the coziest spot in the entire hotel. I would have loved to have taken a nap there!
The spa was decorated like the rest of the hotel, with cool tones and hues of beachy blue along with brown and grey accents, reminiscent of a Northern Michigan beach, which created a very serene environment. Upstairs, above the spa, was the hotel’s salon, however I never heard anyone walking above, or even the sound of distant blow driers whirling, despite the salon having a few patrons inside, which led me to believe that the rooms were if not entirely sound proof, at least insulated in a way that there would be no disturbances during any appointments.
My massage therapist, Fallon, did such an incredible job with my deep tissue massage, and I’m so thankful for her talent as it really relieved a lot of pain I’ve been experiencing. I’ve had massages all over the world, and I’ve received monthly massages as part of my healthcare routine since around the age of 12, and this massage was definitely one of the top 5 best massages I’ve ever had. Fallon listened to my concerns about the tension in my neck and shoulders and she made sure to really focus on those areas, while using her expertise to care for the surrounding areas to loosen up my sore, stiff muscles.
I left the spa feeling completely refreshed, rejuvenated, and reinvigorated. The past year has been the hardest I’ve ever experienced in my lifetime, and I was really feeling the effects of the pandemic, both mentally and physically. I felt so much relief during and particularly after my massage, and I feel a huge difference now when compared to how I felt before this deep tissue massage.
Releasing all of that pain and stiffness has helped me breath easier and feel more like myself again, both literally and figuratively, and I’m sincerely thankful for her expertise. While of course a massage with even the most skilled massage therapist like Fallon can’t fix or undo all of the damage the pandemic has done to our hearts and minds over the last year, it’s the perfect place to start to begin feeling a sense of normalcy and relaxation again.
If you’re in Northern Michigan, stop in to Grand Traverse Resort & Spa (or call (231) 534-6000) to see Fallon, or any of the other highly skilled massage therapist for an incredible spa experience. After your massage and other spa services, head up to the resort’s award winning restaurant Aerie Restaurant & Lounge for a fine dining meal made with the freshest locally sourced ingredients to fuel your body and nourish your soul, all while overlooking the splendor of Grand Traverse Bay and the resorts beautiful golf courses.
