Our visit to Senso-ji shrine in Asakusa, Tokyo was one of the coolest parts of our time in Japan. Dedicated to the Shinto goddess of Mercy, Kannon, the shrine was allegedly built after two brothers found a golden statue in a river more than 1,000 years ago. They decided it was divine and tried to get rid of it, because they believed themselves unworthy, but it kept popping back up and following them around. They eventually built this shrine to house it, where it now allegedly rests. Destroyed during the tragic fire bombings of WWII, this shrine was rebuilt as a testament to living a merciful way of life after the war, and still stands today to remind visitors to be kind and to stand up for each other. #asakusa #japan #tokyo #sensoji #visitjapanus #visitjapan #shintoshrine #shinto #travelphotographer #travelasia #asiatravel

Nikko, Japan was one of my favorite cities in my very favorite nation. Founded in 766 by Buddhist monks, the town has become one of the most culturally important cities in the country. We had the privilege of photographing and wandering through temples and shrines covered in actual gold, emerald green lacquer, beautifully aged copper, and gemstones. We learned about the ties the city has had to the royal family, furthering vegetarianism and veganism in Asia, and we saw one of the most impressive waterfalls in Japan at Nikko National Park. Just a few hours outside of Tokyo, Nikko is a fantastic weekend trip from the city. Located in the mountains of the Tochigi Prefecture, it’s an incredible place for art lovers, history buffs, outdoor lovers, and there’s more vegan and vegetarian food here than anywhere else in Japan. The magnificent memories my husband and I made here are some that I will cherish for the rest of my life. I’ll forever dream of a day we get to go back to this magical, enchanting land. This gorgeous restaurant, set in the jungle of Tulum, Mexico, was built entirely from wood in the jungle that was cut down to make room for @kintoh.azulik. First discovered in 1837 and named after English Queen Victoria, these beautiful Victoria water lilies (Victoria Amazonica) were the highlight of my visit to @rbgedinburgh in Edinburgh, Scotland. They were massive, about 3’ or 1 meter in diameter, and can grow to be up to 3 meters across, or 9 feet, in the wild! The Royal Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland were such a beautiful place to spend our first day in the seaside town. @rbgedinburgh specializes in the conservation and preservation of our natural resources, native and exotic plant species, and is an offshoot of @kewgardens I posted about last month. There were so many greenhouses to stroll through, in addition to sprawling parks and wooded area that we could’ve easily spent a few days getting to know the vast gardens. Are you a fan of the Sherlock Holmes books, movies, or TV shows? My husband’s favorite books have always been the Sherlock Holmes series (and I like them too!) so there was no question in our minds whether or not we’d visit @thesherlockholmesmuseum in London, England when we visited. Located at 221b Baker Street, just around the corner from the Baker St. Station, this beautiful museum had so much detail in their recreated scenes that it felt as though we’d been transported into the books.
