Chai Yo Modern Thai is one of those rare restaurants that made me feel something from the moment I entered the building. A combination of excitement, intrigue, and anticipation, the decor was as beautiful as the food, and the staff were so kind and helpful. This meal was a highlight of our time in Atlanta, Georgia, and the quality of the food, the dedication to culinary perfection, and the respect shown to diners through each plate we were served solidified this as some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had.

The Ambience
Chai Yo Modern Thai has a beautiful, intimate ambience that’s at once relaxing and sophisticated. Touches of organic, textural elements like wood and flickering candles or metal cutouts make the decor sing without being too overbearing. Everything is so subtly done, so effortless, that it’s less like decor and more like an extension of the building itself.
The dishes are lovely too. Colorful but neither fussy nor distracting, they enhance each dish without stealing the show or being too plain. I’d never seen decor like this restaurant’s, and I think that shows how unique it is.
Chai Yo Modern Thai Menu & Our Meals
The menus at HCia Yo Modern Thai are extensive enough to offer a wide selection of dishes without being overwhelming or too broad. There were plenty of options for vegans, vegetarians, and pescatarians, and they had many gluten-free options. There were so many meals we’d never seen anywhere else, so we focused on these modern American twists on beloved Thai favorites.
To begin, we ordered the Basil Rolls which were made of steamed rice paper, Thai basil, cilantro, carrots, rice noodles, lettuce, cabbage, cucumber & peanut sauce. These were so refreshing, so cool, and crunchy that they were the perfect way to start a meal. We also ordered the Tom Kha Lobster Soup, which was lobster tail morsels, coconut meat, coconut milk, lemongrass, galangal, and mushroom medley. This was the dish that Chef Deedee Niyomkul created to win “Beat Bobby Flay”, and we could definitely see why – it was outstanding!

I ordered the Lobster Pad Thai, the most outrageous, splendid, and phenomenal pad Thai I’ve ever had. An entire lobster tail was served gluten-free atop a bed of delectable pad Thai rice noodles, and I was obsessed from the first bite. This was my favorite thing we ordered!
Robin ordered a special Pan Seared Sea Scallops dish that was served with perfectly succulent roasted brussel sprouts. These were delicate and cooked to perfection. Another 10/10 dish!
For dessert, we had Mango Sticky Rice and a Lemongrass Custard. Both were extraordinary, and the perfect way to end such a gorgeous meal.

Final Thoughts
Everything at Chai Yo modern Thai was outstanding. The food, the service, the atmosphere, even the mocktails were perfection. I don’t know what’s in the water in Atlanta, but it’s home to some of the very best food we’ve had anywhere in the world, and Chai Yo Modern Thai raised that bar even higher. Be sure to stop in the next time you’re in Atlanta!
