Arguably Scotland’s most famous castle, Eilean Donan is one of the world’s most photographed castles. It appears in numerous films and TV shows like Highlander, James Bond – The World is Not Enough, and many others, also making it one of the most filmed castles in Scotland. Built sometime in the early 1200s, the castle was destroyed in 1719, and rebuilt by 1932, and is now one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks.
The Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye in north-western Scotland are one of my favorite places we’ve ever been. This was the place we decided to renew our vows on our fifth wedding anniversary, and it couldn’t have been anymore perfect. The water was unbelievably clear, there was hardly anyone else around, and the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Read on to learn how to get there, where to park, what to bring, and the best times to visit.
Regal Glengarry Castle Hotel in Invergarry, Scotland was the perfect place for us to base our adventures in the Scottish Highlands during our anniversary trip in our ancestral homeland. This enchanting former castle was near Loch Ness, Inverness, and not terribly far from the Isle of Skye, which made it the perfect place for us to get a taste of country life in Scotland, while still being within driving distance of many fascinating points of interest and nearby cities.
Autumn is such a magical time of year, as well as my personal favorite season. The leaves change colors, trees look alight with the fires of autumn, and the days become a little darker, and a little colder, hinting at the hibernation to come. Each autumn, my husband and I have an unofficial list of things we like to do before the season ends, and I wanted to share with you 50 fun things to do this fall.
Le Bon Macaron is the best place to find handmade, authentic French macarons in Michigan. They have two locations, one in Ann Arbor, and one in Grand Rapids, both locations also serve ice cream, handmade sodas, coffees, espresso, a variety of tea, and they have a cute selection of merchandise like travel mugs, totes, and clothing that any Francophile should enjoy.
Each year Robin and I head out to an apple orchard and buy a few pounds of organic apples for ourselves, our family members, and our neighbors. We turn what we keep for ourselves into preserves, or eat them when they’re fresh in fall salads, or we make one of Robin’s favorite desserts, an apple crumble. This fall, we got an early start and headed to Almar’s to support their dedicated organic and sustainable farm and orchards, and as usual, it was a wonderful time!
Holland is one of my favorite cities in the Midwest, because it is on Lake Michigan, it’s home to my favorite Michigan festival, the Tulip Time Festival, which sees about 7 million tulips bloom each year in May, and it has consistently been ranked as one of the happiest towns in the United States. Famous all over North America for their stunning flower festival, unique red light house, incredible lake views, and breathtaking sunsets, Holland is a lovely place to visit during any Midwest trip.
I have worn a Pandora bracelet since my early high school days, and I’ve recently filled my second Pandora bracelet with charms that commemorate special occasions, events and milestones, and achievements in my life, along with a few charms that are just for fun. It feels like the end of an era almost, so I wanted to share what I’ve added to this bracelet, and why each charm is special to me.
The handbag in this photo is a knockoff, and I thought even after I took these photos that it was real. Here’s why and how to avoid accidentally buying a fake designer handbag, including concrete tips on how to spot a fake bag, how to research a bag to ensure it’s authentic, and what to do if you accidentally buy a fake. In a world where some people are going to school to learn how to spot fakes because they are so close to the real thing, but often made using exploitation and violence, it’s more important than ever to be vigilant, respect art, and honor the design teams that make authentic designer handbags
The Spa at Blythswood Square in Glasgow is one of Europe’s most sophisticated and saught after spas. Booking out months in advance, the spa is home to some of Scotland’s most luxurious and invigorating spa treatments, which are performed using only organic, Scottish plant-derived products to ensure a safe and relaxing experience. We enjoyed a couple’s massage, a Ishga Scottish seaweed facials, and a salt & oil scrub, a Detoxifying Rhassoul for 2 soak, and a Scottish Seaweed bath. It was an unbelievably cool and refreshing spa day!
